But there is more to say, so we are pressing the left column into service. Long pigeonholed as the home to menus and repeating vertical border graphics, we've freed the left column to take it's rightful place as the home of dynamically supplied content. What's In A Name?

Your domain name; you thought long and hard to come up with something snappy, memorable, descriptive, but most importantly, simply too cool. Of course the perfect name wasn't available, so you settled for the second coolest name ever, but that's another story. Now that you have the perfect domain name you of course want your email to have that extension (you@yourCompany.com). But did you know your web site host provider doesn't need to be your email provider? It's true. MyOhMy Design is a very small web development company. Over the past 6 years we've developed our own ASP.net/SQL Server content management system which all our sites use. We also host all our sites and provide email services.

Did you know there is a Web Analytics Association? Well there is and they have just completed work on a standard set of definitions. Read more at Avinash Kaushik's blog: Occam's Razor: Analytics refined.

Our more email reliant clients use MailTrust .com out of Blacksburg, VA which is a company dedicated to, and passionate about, email; plus the company is made-up of a bunch of Virginia Tech graduates who display that Hokie down-to-earth, friendly competence (simply put, they are great to work with). Other clients, with only a few email accounts, use SmarterMail or just stick with the big services like Yahoo or Google.

MyOhMy provides the CMS & the DNS, but that's only the beginning. To keep a web site relevant (to attract first time visitors and spur returns), somebody has to do a lot of behind the scenes work. Michele logged four or five years scraping together information from every corner of the bustling middle school to keep hurried parents informed on everything from Lacrosse registration to school closings. Kudos to Michele on an exemplar job.

Dave McIntire at First Presbyterian Church in Moorestown, New Jersey. Dave saw our presentation at a Church Administrator's meeting several years ago and immediately grasp the concept of moving to a CMS web presence for his church. He's been a pioneer and Lord knows it hasn't been easy, but he's fought the good fight and we are proud to have worked with him over the years.

Key to Getting Noticed

Remember that scene in Shrek where donkey jumps up and down and hollers "pick-me, oh, oh, oh, pick-me". Ever feel like donkey trying desperately to get noticed? You've undoubtedly tamed your ego since childhood and developed a host of subtle ways to garner attention socially and professionally. Having grown-up in a multimedia world you could probably tick off ten ways to get a business noticed without even pausing to think. All-in-all you are feeling pretty good about yourself and your business and professional acumen.
But, if you are like most web site owners, you are totally befuddled about getting your website noticed. It's been up and running for over a year and yet you get almost no hits. It's tough, there are millions of websites out there; how do you get noticed!!

Browsing Pleasure

Supported Browsers
We test our sites in a bunch of browsers: Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 6 and Safari. We test each of these browsers on Windows and Mac Operating Systems; and more recently the iPhone. By far most visitors to our sites use Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP. Firefox on XP is coming on strong, but is still a distant second. A smattering of people use Internet Explorer 7 and a few use Safari (although we think that's about to change with the iPhone). IE7, Firefox and Safari behave similarly, but IE6 is, as it always has been, a renegade. For the time being, most people still use IE6 so we keep our bag of hacks close at hand. Come-on world; upgrade already!

After you have decided upon and registered a domain name, brainstormed and researched your optimized keywords and phrases, contracted MyOhMy to build and host your SEO optimized site and have established a rigourous routine of adding fresh, relevant content to your site, it's time to get to know Google Analytics.
